The first thing I noticed was how incredibly clean and natural the SAABOON ingredients were – something that you all know I care a lot about! I also noticed his unique and awesome scents and combinations. I mean, he has soap with seaweed in it for exfoliation, and he also has a few soaps that double as a shaving foam as well – perfect for those who want a two-for-one.
When I tried his products, I was hooked. Not just because of its quality, but because of its clean ingredient list. Simple oils as the base of his products, and essential oils for the scents. Our skin is our largest organ, and what we put on our skin is absorbed easily and quickly into our bodies. This is why it’s extremely important to use simple, natural and clean skincare products – something that’s often much easier said than done.
The new SAABOON space in Ottawa
Needless to say, I’ve been a fan of the products and the mission for a few months now. I’ve been following along with SAABOON on their Instagram feed and have been watching the progress on their newest project.
A couple of weeks ago, SAABOON took another huge step in their business and opened up a soap shop in Ottawa (at 595 Gladstone Ave). I’ve been following along on their journey on Instagram, and am so thrilled to see their success. When Joulian reached out to me to see if I wanted to come in and see the space, I was there in a heartbeat.
The place is beautifully set up – all of his soaps and other body products are positioned on unique wall shelving that allows you to see, smell and touch. He even installed a beautiful handmade sink where you can test any soap you’d like – a pretty cool feature if you want to get to know the product a little better before buying!
I got the opportunity to ask Joulian some questions about the shop and about why his soap was better than conventional soaps on the market. Here’s how clean SAABOON soaps and products are:
- Everything is handmade by Joulian himself;
- No chemicals, no synthetics, no artificial colours, no artificial scents;
- Entirely plant-based with no animal by-products – he uses olive oil, coconut oil, argan oil, rosehip oil, jojoba oil, castor oil, cocoa butter and/or avocado oil as a base for his products;
- He works with suppliers who have the same core values;
- His soaps are both cleaning and moisturizing – most commercial soaps have their moisturizing function stripped out of them. This I didn’t know!
The new SAABOON space is gorgeous. Mike and I tried out a few soaps that we hadn’t purchased before, and of course they were consistent in quality with what we’d come to expect. Installing the test-sink was a great idea and seemed to be a hit with all of the customers that visited while we were there, too. Although Mike and I don’t venture downtown too much anymore, we were happy to find free parking along the side streets which made it much easier to pop in for a visit.
*Disclosure: I was provided a few of SAABOON’s products in exchange for writing this review. HOWEVER – I was already a loyal customer of SAABOON way before this, and would have been happy to share their story for free. All thoughts and opinions are my own, and were not influenced in any way.Follow
