I love snacks. Can I get a woop woop? I’m sure you do too. We all do. But too much of something is never a good thing… so how do you stop yourself from constantly reaching into the cookie jar? Protein.
In fact, protein is very important at breakfast time. Did you know that eating protein early in the morning can curb your cravings for sugar and sweets in the afternoon? At least that’s what my naturopath told me. I trust her.
If you’re like me, you need to have some form of junk food at your desk for after lunch. I usually keep a dark chocolate bar and have a piece or two (…or five). But sometimes the craving is really bad and all I want is a cinnamon bun a-la-Tim-Hortons. It tastes so good until it feels so bad. Woohoo for sugar crashes!
Easiest thing to do to avoid sugar in the afternoon? High protein meals in the morning. There are a few ways you can do this:
1) Smoothie with protein powder – This is always at the start of my day. I love my smoothies like nothing else (this is how I justify my recent Vitamix purchase). Add a scoop of protein powder to your concoction and off you go to work with liquid breakfast.
2) Eggs – If you can get it together in the morning to make yourself eggs, go wild. Scrambled, over easy, frittata, omlette, breakfast sandwich … so many options. If you can’t do it, maybe a hard-boiled egg is more up your alley. Either way, this is too much work for me so I will stick with my smoothie.
3) High protein breakfast cereal – Add a scoop of almond butter and a heaping table-spoon of hemp to your oatmeal to get more protein. Once you’re used to the flavour of hemp, it’s a great complement to this kind of meal.
Now tell me. What do you eat for breakfast?Follow
